my aunt marilyn sent me a nice package today, full of cookie which was nice.

everything seems kinda like a blur, i don't even have the desire to go out for halloween, which is kinda sad, and semi complicated. last year, i was in dublin and we had gone out for just a bit, but were so exhausted we called it quits and everyone left early in the morning for their separate flights and i was the last one left in the hostel and the weird french girl had taken someone home with her whom I promptly woke up as I blow dried my hair.
the look on his face...

i want to actually sit down with someone(preferably a man) and talk about poetry or something substantive, theory maybe, i'm not sure what i want which is probably why i'm not dating. which has positives and negatives.

everything else is just kinda killing me.

i'm still hesistating on the tfa thing, tomorrow might just be go time for it. after I turn in my English Internship Application!

My classes are all amuck right now, but if i believe they will get sorted out they will.
I met Mary Sue Coleman this week!
I also got accepted to the New York Arts Internship Program... so NY Summer '08?

in the meantime,

take me here!

the kind of love, that will break my heart.

this week was crazy, in every possible sort of way. so while i eat a scrumptious peach brioche from avalon, i will tell everyone that i haven't been able to talk to, just how crazy my life has been.

wednesday started my 826workshop and featured my 15 hour day. I went to Milton( and i'm gonna get extra credit for memorizing the first line of paradise lost...oh yes.) we spent the day diagraming the first sentence. it was pretty glorious, not gonna lie.
then i made lots and lots of flyers and posted them everywhere for my UEA+826 volunteer info session on thursday. had a quick bite to eat, worked at UMMA, met with Sara and prepped for the 826 workshop from 5:30-8:30, research at the fine arts library till it closes and then had a celebration beer with darcy who i hadn't seen in weeks.
the 826 workshop was amazing. it was a group of kids who hardly ever get an opportunity to explore the arts. i'm really excited to see what they have to say!

thursday morning i made the UEA banner which took up the entire morning,i had lunch, prepped for class, reviewed for my Detroit Midterm(tues) and printed all my back Sociology material(exam thurs). went to history of photography lecture on Stieglitz and Steichen and then had the Volunteer meeting. It was awesome, as 15 people showed up! i got to tell everyone how my workshop personally went. then I watched greys and went to Leopolds to play scrabble with Becca. I played "jicama" it was awesome.

Friday, I worked at UMMA from 11-3. Turned in my NYAIP info, and got the stuff for the UEA Diag Board made, had the UEA meeting, rushed home, packed, headed to Detroit for New Music Detroit performance with my cousin and Nan and his friend. Was in Detroit untill almost 11, crashed at my house.

Saturday morning, I took care of some major paper work kind of stuff, then I interned all day. I ended up going to the CAID 8 1/2x 11 opening at CAID and the Ladybug Gallery. Both were really amazing and super fun. I wasn't back home until 11 again, but it was well worth it.( I will be posting photos later)

I got most of the meat of my Milton paper completed in about 45minutes. It's amazing what not having internet can do for your concentration.

Today I'm interning and tonight I'm studying for History of Detroit and potentially reading Book II of Paradise Lost.

And if you read all of that you are a true friend, or just really freaking nosy

i have to admit, thus far i am really enjoying senior year. i like my classes, and i'm extremely comfortable.
this comfort is still a novelty and i am starting to question whether second semester will turn it into toleration or not.

when does being comfortable start to detract from an experience?
when does being comfortable start to not be enough?

I shouldn't think to much about it. Feeling like I have established a serious network within the History of Art and English Depts and around town make me feel too fufilled, self confident, and connected.

I guess when that stops, I will find some answers.

today may potentially be the best day i have ever had on this campus.

HA 393-
amazing course that will totally utilize everything i have done- studying abroad, working at the museum, internships and all my people skills. aside from helping me prep a thesis or direct writing topic, i will be leading the course through a lecture/tour of the exhibit persian visions: contemporary iranian photography in november. basically, being a docent/gsi person for the class. yesssssss.

LUNCH- took care of important UEA stuff and found out about this really great class i can enroll in to get credit for the work I will be doing with 826 michigan. the prof. in the rc already emailed one of the people I know there, and who I also bumped into tonight at Art Collective and who was really excited and said that they would love to have me. ummm two internships? you want it? you got it.

History of Detroit-

I can't tell you how excited I am for this class. The prof. played a spoof of I Can Tell That We Are Gonna Be Friends(White Stripes) to introduce the class. SO AMAZING. and of course i get to explore detroit and promote MOCAD. HOLLA.

intro to population studies- potentially useful and looks not too scary/mathy.

history of photography- lets just say i had too much to eat too quickly and that it was an intro lecture and he didn't want to scare off any of the freshman by being too in depth. you can definitely tell it's a 100 level class.
oh, how do i love claude cahun and cindy sherman.

then i rushed to art collective where i worked the door/did other stuff rather than be in the shop which worked out just fine. i networked and talked to stacy and stephanie as well as quite a few other people. got asked to basically work with development at umma(holla!). which was gratifying to say the least. the food was good, the people were nice and basically i was in my element and loving it.

i just got dropped off to conquer the fruit fly issue in my apt. damn bananas! i hate fruit flies but i need bananas to combat my hangovers. and my tomatoes are so ripe.

so basically, every seed i sowed this summer has paid off and i've never been so on top. of.everything. i have never felt so connected or so involved before. if someone would have told me that this is what it was like then i would have been doing this a long time ago.

le sigh. day 1 recap. senior year here i am. i don't believe it. but i'm here. and i wouldn't change a thing.

today might be one the best days of the summer!

this morning i had a strange, prophetic dream, about being back in italy. caught between missing my flight and having to pack up everything that i had accumulated. maybe it's time just to let some things go. where i'm going, you can not follow.

then
i had a gorgeous walk to work which has restored my faith in weather.

and then
i met a visiting history of art professor from university of london, who is teaching here all year; second semester course on visibility and art theory. she was super nice, and it was a pleasure talking to her. i hope i can take her class next next semester, she was pretty eager to remember who i was, especially after i talked to her about MOCAD etc.

and now(practically)
i met our new curator of modern and contemporary art which was exciting.

and fast forward
i'm semi obssessed withJames McAvoy )
and am really looking forward to working title's release of Ian McEwan's Atonement come December. SO EXCITED. I MUST REREAD THE BOOK. and maybe buy Amsterdam if the $5 book man still has it.

dominick's or cafe felix, later.
off tomorrow: the perfect summer day. i hope at least as long as emily isn't sick again.
i'm planning on going to the farmer's market, finishing white teeth and all my vocab flash cards and maybe hitting the arb/going out for drinks.

oh and today was pay day so i'm no longer broke.
mocad on sunday for my orientation,
then ikea to pick up odds and ends.

i think it's supposed to feel like this.
i'm excited for school, there's work to be done and i'm overly prepared.
